Scoutmaster’s Report given by Joe File:

--Met with new Senior Patrol Leader and two Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders to talk about how to structure patrols.

Basically it is the same four patrols we have always had, but the Eagles have been disbanded and reconstructed as a leadership patrol. The concept was to give everyone who is in 11 and 12 grade and keep them in leadership. The boys will have more in common in terms of age. We left the patrols as is with the exception of moving Craig to the Beaver Patrol and we added in the new Scouts. (New Scouts were asked to give two names of people they wanted to be with—we then matched them with at least one, sometimes both of those people.) We have taken inactive Scouts out.

Alex does not want to be Scribe any more.

Need a Quartermaster.

Scott is bringing a sign up sheet.

--We have an application for Junior Leader Training Conference, August 10-16. The cost per Scout will be $25, we will pay the balance of $180. Must be 13 years old, patrol leader or potential patrol leader, and recommended by Scoutmaster. Candidates: Joey Furness, Chris Young, Matt Marshall (too young?), Matt Stevens, Jamie Thomas. Van will invite them separately and get feedback. We should send between 2 and 4. Registration deadline is July 1. We need names by our next parents’ meeting.

--Jeff Warren sent an e-mail about the web site:

I currently post announcements from committee meetings and upcoming events on the home page. It is basically free—I pay a slight fee for name. I know it is used for permission slips but do not get feedback on other usage.

Suggestions for the future might be photos, patrols having their own web pages, get computer in Scout Hall on line and do an instructional meeting for web design.

jwarrendmd@mindspring.com

Van: We should really elaborate on this website.

Joe: We should consider updating our computer—it is very old. We need a new computer and new software.

Should we go on line? We would have to get the church’s permission and it would be an expense of about $39/month.

Woody: I think we should now go for new computer and software, and go from there.

She will bring in her computer and we will work on getting software and transitioning.

--I received a "workware" book with a note attached to it. It says fire gloves in here that we need for camping. We do need them. We should order two pair.

--Also, information on commercial stove.

--ACTIVITIES

Camporee last weekend went very well. Small crew but very efficient set up and break down. No cooking Sunday morning helped with a quick break down. Alex SPL did a good job. It was a good weekend. We spent much of Saturday cleaning up the site because of winter storm damage.

Upcoming is the Memorial Day Parade. We are registered.

Van: we should push to get the younger guys there.

June 27, 28, and 29 is set aside for a camping trip in June, but nothing is set. I will not be here.

Woody: We should talk to the SPL and see if he wants to do something. We can go to the beach or … some of the boys need swimming.

Perhaps we could hook up with Roger Crossland and go sailing? There is also a Southport ship.

General Court of Honor—May 29. It will be held downstairs.

End of School Party – June 19. This is instead of the regular meeting. (This is TMS graduation. We might go to raindate.) It was decided to move it to

6-8:30 on June 12.

We are going to go down the beach and swim and have some food (heros or pizza). Woody will get the food. We will have a sign up sheet.

Summer Camp

Joe is leaving May 31 and returning on June 28 in Europe—mostly Mediterranean.

Parents’ Meeting – June 11 with parents of boys going to summer camp, but I will not be here. We can set it up for May 27 or 28 or right after I come back—end of June, June 30. The big thing they need is a mosquito net. I will e-mail them to let them know info.

July 3 we have to go meet with them—it must be before that.
